Joseph Hayes

Biography

Here's the abridged version of the last sixty years. I was married in 1965 and divorced in 1972. Moved from
Rochester to Washington, D.C. and then to Colorado where I married again in 1975. Spent twenty years as
Chairman and President of a large ($600 million annual sales) retail department store company based in Denver. Left the department store business to purchase a forty four store chain of home improvement and building materials centers operating in the upper midwest. After several years of commuting between Denver and St. Paul, Minnesota, the company was sold to Lanoga Corporation. Returning to Denver, I formed and managed a business advisory services practice with both regional and national clients (Wells Fargo, Sports Authority, Cutter and Buck, Echo Bay Mines). I've spent the last few years as a volunteer fundraiser, leveraging my business and personal contacts to raise money for the homeless here in Colorado.

Golf for me is now limited to spectator status, the result of an arthritic shoulder. My wife Gene and I have traveled extensively to watch our son play tournament golf including trips to the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open. In addition to travel, leisure time also involves playing bridge.

Many thanks to Dick Groth for keeping us updated about our classmates.

Best regards to all,

JH
